Read What People Are Saying |
| Hi Everyone. My name is Sean. I am writing this blurb for this site because I truly believe that we as disabled people need to come together at a time when we all need it the most. I grew up in the mid-seventies walking around with metal braces on my legs, and mild cerebral palsy. With all the brains and intelligence I had- I was given a one-way ticket to special ed. In those days we did not understand how capable a person with C.P. was. But I wasn't going to do nothing. As a little boy, I would sit for hours on end, in a world of books, which were safety and joy. Then at the age of 10 years old, I was forced into an operation which put me into a wheelchair, but my determination only became stronger. Through travel and reading I educated myself, astonishing an army of experts, and earning a master's degree. I have spent the last six years fighting to earn a doctorate against overwhelming odds. In 2004, A dear friend introduced me to Ms. Karen Lynn. Our four year friendship, has been one of the great joys of my life. I am currently taking a research trip to South Africa. This trip wouldn't have been possible without the support and guidance of Ms. Lynn and the close friends that truly believe in my abilities. If, I have learned anything from my travels, it's that we as a community must stick together and give each other the support we do not get from the world and our self styled expert helpers. My dear friends, I encourage you to make this site a clearing house for the vanguard of the issues facing all of us, in a struggle to carve out our place in this beloved republic. I ask you to do what ever you can. |

Thanks for your story. We live with it every day. My son (now 27) has a learning disability. He will never be able to express himself like you. He understands the basics of life but not complex issues and is football mad. He finds difficulty in talking and is frustrated when people don’t understand.
Yet the Government here expects him (and others) to get a paid job. Employers will offer him unpaid work but not paid work. Believe me over in the UK we have to fight for people with LD. In 2006 the local college terminated courses for 150 students with 2 weeks notice - they have never been replaced. People with LD are not recognized as equals in society. Its tough out there. |

Hi, my name is Donna. I have spastic Cerebral Palsy with a speech impairment. When I was seventeen years old, I left home for a year to go to a college for young disabled people. This college was in the north of England, in a place called Lancaster. I learnt how to do many things for my self, like dress myself, type on an electric typewriter, and cook. Not only did I learn to live without my mom, but I gain my own independence and freedom. There were caregivers to care for me as well. These people taught me how to look after myself, too! Every Saturday, we would all go to town and spend our weekly money. I had so much fun there.
I could have stayed on for another years, but left after the first, as I got home sick. I am writing this blurb to give hope to all those like myself. If anybody out there is reading this, or thinking of going to college I would highly recommend it. I want to bring some hope and encouragement to those like myself. If you'd like to chat I'd like that too! My email address is: donnahughes1963@hotmail.com |

| Hi. My name is Shannon. I am 32 years old and I have mild cerebral palsy. I have muscle spasms and a speech impairment. I also have problems with my motor skills and balance. I teach 3 year olds at a daycare. I really enjoy working with young children. I sing in a choir and I also sing solos at church. I always loved to sing, Singing usually seemed allot easier to me than speaking, I started singing in church choirs when I was 4 years old. I have been singing solos for about 5 years now. Presenting solo has help improved my confidence level. I am a very shy person, but when I am on the stage singing I do not let my shy personality get the best of me. I just sing for the glory of God. Through my solos others are blessed, because I give my all to God. I like listening to Christian music. I like to hang out with my friends. I am interested in hearing from others with cerebral palsy. |
